The Secret Weapon To Tackle Dry Lips

Say good-bye to chapped lips! Does anyone else experience massively chapped and dry lips in the colder seasons? If you battle through it too, you're not alone. For many of us, we always hear that the cure to tackling dry lips is exfoliation. However, do you ever encounter dry lips even after you apply your favorite EOS lip balm (we love those things!)? Well, the secret is still exfoliation, but we have the perfect tool to help you achieve that: an old tooth brush. Yes, we know it sounds weird, but the bristles on the toothbrush help to remove the dead skin on your lips making it easier to apply lip balm and your favorite matte lipstick (umm...can anyway say ColourPop!). The trick is to take an old dry toothbrush, dip it in your favorite lip scrub (we like anything from The Lip Scrub) and proceed to rub the lip scrub on your cracked, dry lips. Rub it off with a warm towel then apply lip balm or chapstick. It is best to do this at a nightly routine!

Try it out and let us know what you think!

Fall Nail Colors to Have

Fall is here and what are we most excited for about it?! Fall nail polish colors, of course!  Nail polish colors are very seasonal and they also change every year- burgundy has been trendy these last couple of years, but you'll be seeing a lot more camel & coppers this year.  The camel shade is great because it's a little more neutral and goes with everything, but if you're really trying to stand out then copper is your color.

We're also currently obsessing over matte nails, but matte top coats are a hit or miss.  We've tested it and it's amazing- try Essie's "Matte About You" finisher!  It will dry your nails in a giffy and give you that perfect matte finish on any color you desire.

What are some of your favorite fall colors you see this year?!

There is something about plaid that is just so laid back and comfortable. Pair some boyfriend jeans with a plaid top and some converse or TOMS and you're ready for a casual day out. Our latest obsession are the plaid hair accessories! All the plaid hair accessories from France Luxe are just the cutest. Plaid is feminine yet says "I can hang with the boys". 5 Must-Have Fall Boots

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
Even though it's super hot in Arizona right now, it doesn't stop us from dusting off our favorite Fall boots we've tucked away in our closets. Lucky for Co-Founder, Karen, she's had the chance to rock her boots in Seattle, Washington (jealous).  In Arizona back when we were in college, you knew it was Fall when all the sorority girls on campus had on UGGS (in 90 degree weather of course...haha). If you want to jump on the boots train then check out our favorite pairs above. Every girl should have a classic black boot in their Fall wardrobe so that's why we love this 'Andora' Over-the-Knee Boot from Nordstrom. Brown boots are no different! There are so many shades to choose from with brown boots, but our favorite color is a more tannish tone like this 'Pondrosa' Suede Boot from Nordstrom. Pair your boots with stylish jeans or a cute dress with tights. However you choose to wear your boots, rock them with confidence!

Style tip: When you buy your boots, be sure to get socks that are easy to wear with boots. It will make a world of a difference down there!

5 Must-Try Fall Activities

Pumpkin Picking

  • Skip picking up pumpkins at the local grocery store and make an adventure out of it by pumpkin patch picking. There are a lot of secluded farm areas that offer this fun activity. Take your friends, nieces, and nephews and it will be a fun time. After, you can do some cool pumpkin carvings.

Hayrides

  • A hayride is simply going for a ride on a cart either pulled by horses or a tractor. It is typically decorated with bales of hay and it a really fun ride to do with kids and adults on open farms.

Haunted Houses

  • With Halloween being a part of the fall season, you would be doing yourself a disservice {or maybe not for all of you scaredy cats] by not going to a Haunted House. It's always fun to go with a group of friends to haunted houses to scream, laugh, and see who can last all the scariness!

Apple Picking

  • This fun, leisurely activity is great to do with friends as you can pick the best apples since it's the season. Afterwards, gather around the kitchen to make some tasty, homemade, apple pie or apple cider.

Corn Mazes

  • Weave in and out of corn mazes for all sorts of adventure. Make it a competition between your friends to see who can successfully complete the maze first!

6 Essie colors to have this Fall!

It's not quite Fall yet, but it sure is feeling like it.  Bring out those cozy knitted sweaters, cute suede boots, and all those beanies and scarves!  Another thing to change now that Summer is almost over is your nail color- can't be wearing bright blue, yellow, or pink this season.  It's time for some new Fall nail polish colors and Essie has the perfect Fall nail polishes for us- aren't they great?

Another great reason why we love Essie is because they don't chip as easily.  We like to change our nail polish color pretty frequently so gel or acrylic doesn't work for us!  So for the regular, basic manicure gals, Essie is the way to go!

What are some other great Fall nail polish colors?

A Day At The Pumpkin Patch

TSS Readers, meet Maddie... an Alpha Chi Omega from San Diego State University!  Maddie is the newest addition to our It Girl team for 2014.  Want to learn more about her?  Well, you're going to have to wait a little bit-- our new It Girl team will be unveiled soon!  Until then, here's a sneak peek into the life of the newest member of our It Girl family!  Welcome, Maddie!

There’s something magical about fall- the leaves change, the air is crisp, and you can order pumpkin-flavored anything. We don’t exactly get a traditional fall season in San Diego; we’re still wearing flip-flops and going to the beach. But, our sisterhood event at the Pumpkin Station in Del Mar let us pretend! We picked out pumpkins, rode the rides, bought huge buckets of caramel corn, and pet adorable animals. It was a great way to bond with our new members and celebrate this beautiful season.

When we got back to our chapter house, we held a decorating competition- it was so fun to see everyone’s crafty side. We split the girls into teams and gave them supplies to decorate with, including pipe cleaners, pom poms, paint, glitter, and different types of candy.   One team crafted a hilarious witch with hay, a paper hat, and a pickle nose.  Another team did a cute aqua ombre pumpkin using paint and glitter.  All of the pumpkins make a festive addition to the front of our chapter house.

We love the mix of Halloween tradition and glamour on the pumpkin with the jeweled spider on it. Some pumpkin patches sell kits with stick-on jewels, but you can also get large gems and rhinestones from any craft store and hot glue them to your pumpkin!  When you decorate your pumpkins, you can get inspiration from Pinterest, your favorite movies, and even the supplies you have lying around. We had a blast at this sisterhood event! I encourage you to go with your chapter or your friends. Even if you don’t pick a pumpkin, you’ll get loads of great photos together!

Bright PINK Power Hour Highlights

Last week, Co-Founder Karen and TSS It Girl/ Zeta Tau Alpha, Victoria, had the pleasure of attending Westfield Southcenter Mall's Bright Pink Power Hour Fashion Show in Seattle. In case you didn't know, Bright Pink is the only national nonprofit dedicated to the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women. We just couldn't miss out in participating in such an awesome event as 100% of the tickets sold went toward the nonprofit. Transition into Autumn with Victoria

Skinny Jeans: Madewell. Skinny Frosted Pants (black): Madewell. Dress: ASOS. Two Toned Riding Boots: Tommy Hilfiger. Checkered Flannel: Urban Outfitters.

Ahhh, autumn. Like most, autumn is my favorite season of the year. Autumn brings along crisp fall air, riding boots, college football (GO DAWGS!), sweater weather, ombre foliage, and homemade apple cider. It’s the cozy season; not too hot, but not too cold, yet. However, every time fall shimmies around the corner, transitioning your summer pieces into your autumn wardrobe, whilst maintaining your sensibility, can be pretty tough! I’m not recommending that you go along wearing your bright neon floral print top with white jeans and boots (big no, no), but I do have several tips for you to mix your beloved summer fashions, with all your seasonal autumn favorites.

Transition slowly, but confidently. You don’t want to go head first in to all your thickest sweaters, and biggest circle scarves. But if you really feel like sporting something like I stated above, just be like BeyoncĂ©, and own every part of it! In the end, that’s the best piece of fashion advice anyone could ever have. If you have a particular muted or neutral summer dress, or anything that incorporates a fall color tone (anything jewel tones, rusts, golds, coppers, orange, rich reds, or basic neutrals), it can usually be mixed with other pieces in your fall wardrobe to create a good transition outfit. Stay away from shorts once fall rolls along, you don’t want to look weather confused by matching it with a boyfriend cardigan!

Instead, go for a dress, or cute skinnies in rich colors, and be careful with prints; if any print, opt for a cute leopard print or checkered flannel. One of my favorite transitional outfits for fall is pairing a simple dress, like my black a-line t-shirt dress from ASOS, with a cute fall toned flannel, a scarf, and flats, or ankle boots. You can get the same look with switching out a dress for a cute t-shirt or blouse and skinnies!

Once the weeks start getting cooler, it is time to nix the dresses, unless you’re wearing them with some cute cable knit tights underneath. Go for lots of fun layering and mix patterns and textures! Something that makes fall fashion so unique is mimicking the way nature showcases vibrant hues, with textures like crunchy leaves, and soft grass before it’s covered by morning dew. Have fun and be daring, make your fashion stand out above the rest! Other great things to try out is putting any button down or blouse under a patterned blazer for a preppy look, or sport your sorority pride by wearing a crew neck with your letters, a button down underneath and a super cute statement necklace! This time of year also now becomes a great time to pull those adorable two-toned riding boots out from your closet.

You can never go wrong with skinnies, of course! Wearing denim leggings may not keep you warm enough in the cooler months, so a great way to make sure your jeans don’t look bulky under your boots is to cuff the bottom, put your sock over, flatten the jean out with the sock, and then put your boot on. Regular skinnies, or my favorite from Madewell called the ‘Skinny Skinny Ankle’ are perfect throughout the earlier months of fall with flats or ankle boots, and are effortless to tuck into riding boots! The jean hits at your ankle, being the smallest part of the boot, so it lies flat. Coated black denim and biker zippers are in for fall, and compliment a lot of styles-try it out!

Scarves and sweaters are going to be your best friend when the crisp air becomes slightly more frigid. Try layering a fun button up over a t-shirt, and then add a cardigan or open sweater over the button up and roll up the sleeves once or twice. Top it off with a scarf and adorable gold jewelry to make your look finished and festive, or even a cute fleece or North Face puffer vest, and you’re good to go!

Happy Autumn!
